The Genesis of the Altar Girlz

Photo 4We’ve talked about our “Altarholics” quite a bit, the biggest fanz we have who love coming to see our show multiple times!  The record holders are two adorable sisters names Leah and Alex who have come to see the show 12 times!

Monday night was their final visit before heading off on a cruise which will have them sailing the high seas when the boyz pack up in Vancouver for the last time on August 29th.  It was an emotional good-bye, but also one with a special gift!!  The girlz made the boyz an adorable book all about their time spent in the audience: “The Genesis of the Altar Girls: According to Alex and Leah.”

Aside from the great story, awesome images a la MS Paint and all the homemade love, the boyz are thrilled to have such a great keepsake for their many travelz in the van ahead.

We’re no good at hogging fun things all to ourselvez, so after the jump, take a browse through the book!

The Final Confession Session

Happy Sunday.  Here’s the boyz final confession session here on the Altar Blog.  They’d like to thank everyone for their amazing confessions over the tour and Granville Island run.

Confession Sessionz!

Confession 1: Chelsea Harris

Kind of Sin: They come in kinds?!

You know that Duggar family?  The one with 18 children and their own TLC show?  Well, for my friends surprise birthday party I made a game about their tendency to pop out babies.  It was called “Pin the Contraceptive on the Duggar.”

Is she sorry? No.

—–

Confession 2: Shannon

Kind of Sin: Not specified.  We think venial, though.

I pooped myself earlier today… I had to walk around with no panties on because I stunk so bad.  Please don’t tell anyone.

Is she sorry? Also unspecified.

—-

Confession 3: Matthew, leader of the Altar Boyz

Kind of Sin: Venial

I read a confession about some lady pooping herself, and she asked us not to tell anyone… but I posted it on the Altar Blog.  I just wanted to help cleanse the poop on her soul.

Is he sorry? Sure.

Confession 4: Samantha

Kind of Sin: Mortal

I took straws, stir sticks, and tooth picks from various stands in the Granville Island Market to make a brussel sprout bouquet for my friend after her showcase.  She likes brussel sprouts.

Is she sorry? No…

Get your Altar Boyz Merch!!

The fanz out there often ask the boyz a tough question… “Yo!  I needs me a t-shirt.  Where’s your merch stand?”

Truth be told, Luke was responsible for packing all of the merch into the Van on the day he started his stint at the “New Horizons Rejuvenation Centre,” and promptly left our merch cases on the side of the road in Medicine Hat, Alberta.  Turns out there were enough “I *heart* Altar Boyz” shirts for every man, woman and child in the Gas City.

You’re welcome.

Thankfully the Altar Boyz in New York are sellin’ their merch online, so you too can grab your “Got Guilt” t-shirt.

Click here to visit the NY company’s merch site, and happy shopping.

May the Lord forgive the non-buyers for their envy.

100 shows… THOUSANDS of souls saved!

Today is the day!  The Altar Boyz will take the stage tonight at 8:00 for the 100th time here in BC!!!

100showsNow, without further adieu, the boyz present the final segment of their favourite 100 memrories from their time here in Vancouver and British Columbia.

If you want to send a message to the Altar Boyz on their 100th show, post the comments below and we’ll pass them along. Continue reading

Gettin’ to the good stuff!

What a trip it’s been down memory lane so far… we’ve knocked off 60 of the boyz’ fave moments from being on tour in BC and playing Granville Island.

Time to REALLY get down to business…

40. A relaxing afternoon at the hot springs while on tour in Nelson.

39. Flipping through the boyz’ flickr feed to see Matthew’s consistently goofy smile.  Seriously… nearly the same every picture.

38. The first time hearing our amazing band play “We Are The Altar Boyz.”

37. Luke’s crazy backflip!!!

36. The fanz in Coquitlam.

35. Going clothing shopping with Auntie Shiela!

Shiela is our Jessie award winning costume designer.  Before the boyz even had a single rehearsal, she took us out shopping to pick out some new threads.

34. Fun nights out at 1181.

33. Post-show popsicles on Juan’s downtown balcony with Matthew.  Love ya, buddy.

32. Jennifer Bishop joining us onstage!

31. David Godin’s wonderful pre-show chat with the audience.

30. Making the band laugh… out loud!

29. Sara-Jeanne Hosie teaching the boyz how to do the Roger Rabbit.

28. Choreography changes so Matthew doesn’t have to do the Roger Rabbit.

27. Audience members laughing because they know what the Roger Rabbit is.

26. Waking up at 7:00am thinking about doing a blog post.

25. Rehearsal lunch breaks at the Pho place on Broadway at Cambie.

24. Our first standing ovation.  Thank you so much.

23. Video footage from the road.

As much as we’d love to share some of this RIDICULOUS footage with you, this one is only for the boyz!

22. Awkward interviews with television crews.

21. Taking B-Millz and Stephanie Hargreaves to the Backstreet Boys concert.

Tomorrow is the big day!  100th show!  Hope to see you there.

20 more of the boyz BC crushes

Saturday was a busy one with two shows for the boyz, so today we’ll be adding two sets of twenty things the boyz love about being in BC.

Check out the first 40 things below in our last two posts.

60. B-Millz (aka Bill Millerd) telling the boyz and the band about their four week holdover.

59. Getting in trouble for laughing too much in rehearsals.

58. Shotgun Toronto trips on the day off

57. Days off on SUNDAY!!!  Yay!  Everyone pray.

56. Signing massive piles of posters to hand out to the audience after the show.

55. Fans interrupting breakfast at White Spot, embarrassing Matthew while his parents are with him.

54. Susanna’s smiling face.

Susanna is the receptionist at the Arts Club, and possibly the friendliest person in the world.  We adore her.

55. Fraternizing with our friends from Les Miserables.

54. Juan hitting a home run in the Arts Club vs. Bard on the Beach softball game.

53. Tanning too much.

52. MAC makeup’s bronzing powder.  Does a boyband good.

51. Fireworks on the roof with Louis.

3717847323_480856558650. Vince and the Frenette sisters:  our favourite regulars!

49. Mark’s yellow belt.

48. The Arts Club’s wonderful box office staff and their willingness to let the boyz in when they show up too early.

47. The band’s reluctance to play one particular song.

The boyz have a track they have never had to play before… it is only to be used in an extreme emergency, but the band still refuses to play it.  They fear the powah.

46. Hugs from friends and fanz after the show

45. Sonora and her I *heart* Altar Boyz t-shirt.Jun 24 Altarholics with boyz

44. Mark’s blonde curls.

43. Matthew’s tour hair… his crazy crazy tour hair.

42. The Heritage Inn in Nelson.

41. Buff Allen laughing at our pre-show rituals.

Look for 40 to 21 coming later on today!

Countdown to 100 Shows!

altar_boyz_2109Luke is flippin’ out, yo!!

“100!!  I made it to 100!!”

Yes, Luke finally counted all the way to 100, it’s really amazing.  But Luke’s grand accomplishment lead the boyz to another miraculous realization: Their 100th show is only days away.

August 17th at 8:00, the Altar Boyz hit the stage for the big 1-0-0 and they couldn’t be more thrilled.  Seeing as it’s only five days away, we’ll be running down the boyz’ 100 favourite things about playing British Columbia.  These faves are being fondly remembered from our BC tour in the winter, and the current Granville Island run.

Check out the first 20… after the jump!

From the Altar to the Barricade… Congrats!!

les-mis-5-DC

Congrats to everyone in the company of “Les Miserables” at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage on their amazing run.  Today is the final performance for the massive hit starring Sara Jeanne Hosie, the girl Mark steals all his dance movez from.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham (don’t forget, Abe’s Jewish), all send their love and many prayers to the men and women on the barricade.

Did you know: On August 2nd, Les Miz played it’s 100th performance!  Pretty crazy right?

Did you also know: Altar Boyz will hit 100 performances on August 17th?

Pix from Hayden

IMG_6110Hayden is one of the boyz’ youngest fanz, and he is for real, yo!  Hayden has seen the show in New York, Vancouver and even has a pretty cool cap signed by the off-broadway company of AB.

That cap is off the hook.

Hayden came and visited the boyz in Vancouver not too long ago wearing his Altar Boyz gear, and posed for pictures with Matthew, Abraham and Juan.

He loves dancin’ to tracks like “God Put the Rhythm in Me” and singin’ along to “The Calling.”  Who knows, maybe he’ll be an altar boy himself someday.

He emailed up a few fun pix, and we’d like to share them with you.  Enjoy!
